3.5.12 SOFTBALL: Cavs Open Season with Sweep; Ebert Fans 11 in Opener

Walsh (2-0) opened the season with a sweep at the Smash Hit Tournament in Hardeesville, SC.  The Cavs defeated the University of Findlay 6-5 and USC-Beaufort 7-5.  The Cavs meet Malone University at 2 pm tomorrow and Brewton-Parker at 4 pm.

Walsh took advantage of three Findlay errors, and scored five unearned runs in the opener.  Walsh scored four runs in the second inning and two more in the third.  Walsh starter, Erin Ebert (Jr., Jeromesville, OH/Hillsdale,) fanned 11 in four innings to pick-up her first victory of the season.  Freshman Hanna Dodson (Newark, OH/Licking Valley) worked the final three innings to earn her first collegiate save. 

Kelsey Ford (Sr., Boardman, OH/HS) went the distance to pick-up the win in the second game.  Ford fanned seven and did not walk a batter.  Walsh scored twice in the third, fifth and seventh innings.  Dana Brown (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) went 3-4 and scored three runs.  Kaleigh Cupka (Fr., Streetsboro, OH/Walsh Jesuit) and Olivia Jesionek (Fr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) each went 1-4 and drove in two runs.
