3.5.13 BASEBALL: Cavs Split at Southeastern; Drapcho Fires Shutout in Game Two
(Lakeland, FL) Walsh (3-2) split a double header at Southeastern University (9-15) today. The Cavs lost the opener 10-5, but rallied to win the nightcap 3-0. Walsh is idle tomorrow. The Cavs play split a double header with Rockhurst (10 am) and Cedarville on Thursday (2 pm.)
Southeastern snapped 2-2 deadlock with a five-run outburst in the fourth inning against Walsh starter, and loser, Joe Tann (So., Canton, OH/Central Catholic). The Fire slugged two homers and outhit the Cavs 11-6. Tann is 0-1.
Justin Clements (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) had two hits and drove in a run. Steve Wido (Sr., North Royalton, OH/Padua) and Andrew Bonnette (So., Tallmadge, OH/HS) also dove in a run.
Ian Drapcho (Jr., Dover, OH/HS) pitched a masterpiece in game two in earning his first win of the season. The right-hander blanked the Fire on four hits. He fanned five and walked only one was never in any real trouble.
Walsh scored twice in the third inning and added a final tally in the fourth. Jordan Shank (So., Canton, OH/GlenOak) started the two-run rally with a single to right and then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Nate Stuntz (Jr., Delaware, OH/Hayes) then doubled him home with the games’ first run. Stuntz moved to third on a ground ball and scored the second run on a passed ball. Walsh added an unearned run in the fourth when Jake Palidar (Jr., Wadsworth, OH/HS) singled, stole second base, and scored then scored on a throwing error.
The Cavs played errorless ball in both games.
