3.7.12 SOFTBALL: Cavs Split; Ebert No-Hits Milligan

(Hardeesville, SC) Walsh (4-2) shutout Milligan College 9-0, but then lost 8-4 to the University of Findlay today in a split double header at the Smash Hit Tournament.  The highlight of the day was Erin Ebert’s (Jr., Jeromesville, OH/Hillsdale) no-hitter against Milligan. The Cavs are now headed to the Gulf Coast Invitational in West Gulf Shores Alabama.  The Cavs start play on Friday.

Ebert pitched her first collegiate no-hitter against Milligan. The right-hander fanned 10 and walked only one. Walsh led 1-0, when they opened the game up with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and three more in the sixth.  Dana Brown (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) and Crystal Pfleger (Jr., Mogadore, OH/Field) each drove in two runs. Pfleger and Kendra Gerber (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) each had two hits. Pfleger had a triple and Gerber a double. Kayla Marcus (So., Bergholz, OH/Edison) scored twice and doubled and Maggie Yavorsky (Sr., Norton, OH/HS) had a double.

Findlay scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 7-1 lead on their way to an 8-4 win.  Kelsey Ford (Sr., Boardman, OH/HS) started and was charged with the complete game loss.  Pfleger was 2-4 with a double and Kaleigh Cupka (Fr., Streetsboro, OH/Walsh Jesuit) was 2-4 with 2 RBI.
