3.8.14 BASEBALL: Cedarville Tops Cavs In Final Game In Florida
(CLEARWATER, Fla.) – Walsh fell in its final game in the Clearwater Invitational by a score of 7-2 to Cedarville on a sunny Saturday morning. The Cavaliers (6-8) finish the spring break trip 5-5, were 5-2 in games on neutral sites, and split two games with the Yellow Jackets (8-4).
The Cavs started off the game with a pair of runs in their opening at-bat as Jason McPeek (So., Stow, OH/Munroe-Falls/Akron) rounded the bases with a double to left center. Andrew Stalnaker (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson), who reached on a single, scored from first. McPeek advanced to third on the throw home and scored on a throwing error by the pitcher as he attempted to keep him at third.
Cedarville responded with big innings in the first and second. The Yellow Jackets batted around the order and scored three runs in the first and nearly did it again with two runs in the second. Two more runs in the fourth made it 7-2 Cedarville.
Logan Bowles (Fr., Canton, OH/South/Ohio State) dropped to 0-2 on the year after he was hit early and often. He gave up seven runs, six earned, on seven hits with five strikeouts and four walks.
The Cavs return to action next weekend with a four game series against Gannon of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Doubleheaders are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday with both set to start at 1 p.m.
