3.9.12 BASEBALL: Cavs Split at Warner Tournament

Baseball, 2012-03-09

(Lake Wales, FL) Walsh (5-9) won one and lost one in a split double header at the Warner Southern Tournament today.  The Cavs lost 4-2 to Bellevue University (9-9), before bouncing back to defeat Thomas University 3-1.  The Cavs close their Flordia trip against Purdue-North Central at 9:30 am tomorrow.

Walsh starter Travis Danner (Sr., Medina, OH/HS/CCC) was touched two runs in the first inning, with Bellevue adding single runs in the third and sixth innings.  Walsh added two runs in the sixth.  The Cavs managed just four hits, with Trevor Smith (Jr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) going 2-3.

Freshman Joe Tann (Canton, OH/Central Catholic) pitched six strong innings to earn his first collegiate. The right-hander scattered seven hits and allowed only a run in the first inning.  He fanned three and did not walk a batter.  Walsh put three runs on the board in the top of the fifth inning, keyed by a two-run triple by Smith that gave the Cavs a 2-1 lead. Smith then scored on a two-out single by Forrest Boggs (Jr., Suffield, OH/Field/Mercyhurst). Zach Speer (Jr., Stow, OH/HS) worked a one-two-three seventh inning to pick-up the save.
