3.9.12 SOFTBALL: Cavs Fall Twice at Gulf Coast Invitational

(Gulf Shores, AL) Walsh (4-4) lost twice in their first games of the Gulf Coast Invitational. The Cavs fell 7-6 to Auburn University at Montgomery at 8-3 to Freed-Hardeman University. Rain altered the schedule and Walsh did not play Spring Hill College.
The Cavs couldn't hold a 6-1 lead in their loss to AUM. Auburn scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a passed ball. Walsh led 6-1 after two and one-half innings after scoring a single run in the first, four in the second and one in the third. Dana Brown (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) and Chesly Testa (So., Unointown, OH/Lake) each had two hits and Maggie Yavorsky (Sr., Norton, OH/HS) and Kayla Marucs (So., Bergholz, OH/Edison) each drove in two runs. Erin Ebert (Jr., Jermomesville, OH/Hillsdale) went 6.2 innings and took the loss.
Freed-Hardeman led 8-2 after three innings, and coasted to an 8-3 win. Marcus went 2-4 and Brown scored two runs. Kelsey Ford (Sr., Boardman, OH/HS) was the starting and losing pitcher for the Cavs.
Walsh will continue play the Gulf Coast Invitational on Saturday, when it takes on Morningside College at 9 am and Brenau University at 11 am.
