4.1.12 SOFTBALL: Cavs Pound Fisher Again
Walsh cruised to two more victories and completed an almost perfect weekend at Fisher on Sunday. The Cavaliers (19-11, 5-1) took game one 27-0 and kept the Falcons (0-23, 0-8) winless with Kelsey Ford’s (Sr., Boardman, OH/HS) no-hit shutout by a count of 11-0. In total, the Cavs outscored Fisher 96-0 and allowed only two hits during the entire series. All four games lasted only five innings.
Ford also saw success at the plate. In the first game, she went 4-for-5 and hit a grand slam, her first home run of the year. She had five RBI for the game and five runs scored. The only time she didn’t record a hit, she still reached base safely on an error which broke a streak of 13 consecutive hits in the series. In the circle for the last game, Ford struck out 11 batters against five walks in five innings of work.
Olivia Jesionek (Fr., Parma, OH/Holy Name), Rachel Corrigan (Fr., Pickerington, OH/North), and Kaleigh Cupka (Fr., Streetsboro, OH/Walsh Jesuit) each had four hits as well. Corrigan tossed a gem herself for the first game as she gave up just one hit and struck out five batters. The game was easily decided in the first inning as Walsh plated 15 runs.
In the second game, every player rounded the bases to score. Six players recorded multiple hits. Ford led the way once again with three.
The Cavaliers return to action on Tuesday as they entertain Houghton in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. The two teams will get together again on Wednesday for another doubleheader.
