Softball, 2012-04-10

Walsh split a doubleheader with hosting Cedarville as the Cavs dropped the first game 3-0, but regrouped to win the second game 8-0 in six innings. The Cavaliers (25-13) had a two-hit shutout in their win while the Yellow Jackets (25-14) recorded a one-hit shutout in their victory.

The Cavs opened the scoring in the second game right off the bat with a pair of runs in the first inning and added another in the second. Walsh then pushed its lead to 6-0 with three in the fourth. Two insurance runs were scored in the sixth inning and allowed for the mercy rule to be invoked after Cedarville was unable to answer.

Kayla Marcus (So., Bergholz, OH/Edison), Chelsy Testa (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake), and Hanna Dodson (Fr., Newark, OH/Licking Valley) all had big days at the plate as each batter went 3-for-4 in the second game. Marcus had a pair of RBI and scored one run, Testa had an RBI and scored two runs, and Dodson drove in two runs.

Erin Ebert (Jr., Jeromesville, OH/Hillsdale) pitched the complete game and struck out eight batters with no walks in six innings of work. She is now 11-6 on the season.

In the first game, Dana Brown (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) was the solo Cavalier to record a hit. Kelsey Ford (Sr., Boardman, OH/HS) took the loss to drop to 9-3.

The Cavs return home to host Ursuline College in a doubleheader on Thursday. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
