4.12.14 BASEBALL: Grand Valley Sweeps Cavs

Baseball, 2014-04-12

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) Grand Valley State (23-7, 14-2) strengthened its hold on first place in the GLIAC with a sweep of the Cavs (16-18, 8-8) by the scores of 10-1 and 5-2. The series concludes with a single game at 1:30 tomorrow. The game will be broadcast live on TEAMLINE.

Grand Valley's Giancarlo Brugnoni was a one-man wrecking crew in the opener. He slugged a three-run homer in the first inning, and again in the Lakers six-run second. That was all Laker starter Aaron Jensen needed, as he was held to six hits in picking up the win.

Grand Valley scored four runs off Walsh starter Brandon Whitslar (Jr., Seville, OH/Cloverleaf) in the third inning of the nightcap. The Cavs cut the lead in half when Andrew Stalnaker (Fr., Canton, OH/Jackson) hit a two-run homer in the fourth. The Lakers added an insurance run in the seventh.

Walsh has lost its last three games.
