(North Canton, OH) After falling 4-3 in 12 innings in game one to GLIAC foe Tiffin University (14-16, 8-5), Walsh (15-12, 6-9) bounced back and won the nightcap 5-2. The Cavs play their third straight home GLIAC doubleheader tomorrow when they host Ohio Dominican University at 1 pm.
Game one was won when Tiffin snapped a 2-2 tie in the top of the 12th inning with two runs, and then held on for the 4-3 win. Each team scored single runs in the fourth and ninth innings. Walsh tied the game in the fourth on Eryn Simon’s (Jr., Oregon, OH/Clay) sacrifice fly, and then in the ninth on a dramatic homerun by Chelsy Testa (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake). Casi Rohr (So., Massillon, OH/Perry/Toledo) was the tough luck loser, as she went all 12 innings. Rohr fanned eight and walked only two.
The Cavs scored in each of the first four innings in of game two. Walsh tallied two runs in the first inning and then scored once in each of the next three innings. Senior right-hander Erin Ebert (Sr., Jeromesville, OH/HS) then made the early runs stand-up with a complete game effort. Ebert improved to 6-5 on the year, after scattering five hits and fanning eight. Simon singled in the Cavs first run, and then took a 2-0 lead on Testa’s ground out to second base. Brown singled home the Cavs run in the second inning to give Walsh a 2-1 lead. Ashley Starr (Fr., Bloomingdale, OH/Indian Creek) doubled in the fourth run in the third inning and Walsh then scored an unearned run in the fourth.
