4.15.12 FOOTBALL: Carter Field Goal Wins Walsh Spring Game for Maroon

(North Canton, OH) Tim Carter (6-0, 175 So., Columbus, OH/Bishop Watterson) snapped a 7-7 tie with 14 seconds to play with a 20-yard game winning field goal to give the Maroon Team a 10-7 win over the Gold squad in Walsh University’s Spring Football Game. Carter, who kicked for both teams, also tacked on two extra points.

The Gold opened the scoring when Jamaris Brown (5-9, 162, So., Fort Myers, FL/Lehigh) intercepted a Matt Shelton (6-3, 175, So., Hubbard, OH/HS) pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown with 2:30 to play in the first half.  The Maroon answered immediately and tied the game when Trent Toy (6-3, 205, R-Fr., Avon Lake, OH/HS) hit Anthony Schrock (6-3, 215, So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) for a nine-yard touchdown to tie the game with 35 seconds to play in the first half.

Reggie Garner (5-9, 187 Jr., Buffalo, NY/Kiski Prep) and Dominic Williams (5-11, 197, Jr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) rushed for 89 yards and 61 yards respectively to lead all rushers.  They both played for the winning Maroon team. Schrock caught three passes for 42 and Justin Gidcumb (6-1, 235, Sr., Cambridge, OH/John Glenn) caught two passes for 28 yards.  Jack Dawson (6-2, 191, Sr., Columbiana, OH/South Range) led the Gold with 26 yards rushing.   Darryl Gary (So., 5-9, 157, So., Fort Myers, FL/South Fr. Myers) led the Gold with four receptions for 20 yards.

Walsh opens the season on Thursday, August 30 at Kentucky Wesleyan University.
