4.14.14 WOMEN'S GOLF: Tsangeos Reaches Medalist Playoff at JBMF Cavalier Classic

(CANTON, Ohio) – Jenny Tsangeos (Jr., Canton, OH/GlenOak) finished the JBMF Cavalier Classic in a three-way tie for first place, but lost in playoff to highlight Walsh’s two-day invitational. Tsangeos shot a 77 on the second day after she shot a 76 to finish with a score of 153. Findlay’s Michele Schambs won the playoff with a par on the first hole at Glenmoor Country Club. Tsangeos and Ferris State’s Ashley Swanson both bogeyed the Par 4. Tsangeos was one of only two players to shoot two rounds in the 70s.

Grand Valley State University won the event with a team score of 628. Findlay and Ashland tied for second with a score of 642. Ferris State and Cal (Pa.) rounded out the top five. Walsh finished tied for seventh with a score of 681 along with Ohio Dominican. Walsh’s B team finished with a score 769. A total of 14 teams participated in the event.

In addition to Tsangeos, Amanda Griffin (Jr., Tallmadge, OH/HS), Kayla Hardesty (So., Minerva, OH/Marlington), Meghan Hatfield (So., North Canton, OH/Jackson), and Raven Venegas (Fr., Lima, OH/Shawnee) participated on the Cavaliers’ main team. Griffin shot an 88 for a two-day score of 174. Hardesty carded an 86 on the second day for a total of 176, Hatfield shot a 92 for a 178, and Venegas scored a 94 for a 187.

Walsh’s B team shot a 373 on the second day, 23 strokes better than yesterday. Nicole Asbun (Fr., La Paz, Bolivia/St. Andrews), Paige Victor (Fr., Mentor, OH/HS), Gina DePasquale (Fr., Hubbard, OH/HS), and Brooke Morgan (Fr., Akron, OH/Firestone) comprised the Cavs’ second team.

The Cavs are off until Friday, April 25, when they will compete in the GLIAC Championships. The 3-day event will take place in New Albany, Ohio, at Winding Hollow Golf Course.
