4.16.12 SOFTBALL: Cavs Take Split With Point Park

(Kennedy Twp, PA) - Walsh split a twin bill on the road with Point Park in what are pivotal games for both teams in the conference standings. The Pioneers (20-20, 7-1) opened up the day with a 5-0 no-hit win while the Cavaliers (29-15, 11-3) rebounded and took the second game 6-2.

Walsh scored the first four runs of the game with with the long ball. Rachel Dedisnky (So., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) hit a solo shot in the third inning for the first run. The following three runs came on a home run by Kelsey Ford (Sr., Boardman, OH/HS) with Olivia Jesionek (Fr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) and Chelsy Testa (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) on base in the fourth. Both reached on singles to start the frame.

Point Park answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth, but the Cavs scored insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings for a 6-1 lead. The Pioneers scored a final run in the sixth but did not get any closer.

Ford also recorded the win in the circle. She is now 11-4 on the season and gave up two runs on five hits with 10 strikeouts against one walk in seven innings pitched.

Point Park University’s Kelsey Robertson pitched a no-hitter in game one of an American Mideast Conference double header against the Cavs, and won by the score of 5-0.  The win strengthened the Pioneers hold on first place in the AMC. The Pioneers scored single runs in the second and fifth innings and added a three-spot in the fifth.  Robertson walked four and fanned eight.

Erin Ebert (Jr., Jeromesville, OH/Hillsdale) took the loss for the Cavs.

Walsh returns to action tomorrow with a doubleheader against rival Malone. Game time is set for 3 p.m. Point Park will travel to Walsh on Friday to wrap-up the four game series.
