4.16.13 MEN'S LACROSSE: Ohio Valley Edges Cavs 14-10

(VIENNA, W.Va.) – Walsh couldn’t hold on to an early 3-1 lead and fell 14-10 to hosting Ohio Valley University in ECAC Division II Lacrosse action Tuesday evening. The Cavaliers are now 2-6 overall and 0-5 in the conference. The Fighting Scots are now 6-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

The Cavaliers took an early 2-0 lead after Mason Axline (Jr., 5-7, Green, OH/HS) scored a pair of goals in the first five minutes. OVU added a goal at the 10:00 mark of the first quarter, but Axline added a third goal with a couple of minutes left. In the second quarter, the Fighting Scots reeled off five-straight goals to take the lead. Walsh made it 6-5 after goals by Tyler Murphy (Sr., 6-4, Canton, OH/Jackson) and Ben Stephens (Jr., 6-0, Murrysville, PA/Franklin), but Ohio Valley scored four in a row to take a 10-5 lead and held on the rest of the way.

Axline finished with five goals to lead the Cavs. Murphy added a pair of goals along with Ian Maurer (Jr., 6-2, Jackson, OH/HS). Jeff Balzano (Jr., 6-0, Chesterland, OH/West Geauga) played the full 60 and made 10 saves on the day.

Walsh returns home for its penultimate game of the season against Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday at 1 p.m.
