4.16.13 SOFTBALL: Wayne State Takes One Before Rains Suspends Two

Wayne State and weather dampened Walsh spirits as the visiting Warriors took Game 1 by a score of 5-2 before the nightcap was suspended in the fourth inning. The Cavaliers (15-15, 6-12) led Wayne State (17-16, 8-5) 1-0 before play was stopped.

Walsh controlled the game early on and led 2-0 after runs were scored in the first and third innings. Calee Ruppel (So., Mogadore, OH/HS) scored both after reaching on singles. She scored during Chelsy Testa’s (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) single in the first and on an error in the third. Wayne State answered with three runs in the fourth to take the lead and added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh for the win.

Casi Rohr (So., Massillon, OH/Perry/Toledo) took the loss to drop to 7-8 on the year.

The Cavs return to action tomorrow with a twin bill against Notre Dame College. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. Walsh will also be celebrating its seniors for Senior Day.
