4.17.14 MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD: Cavs Third In Home Meet

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) - The Walsh men’s track and field team finished third in a quad with Ashland, Malone, and Ohio Dominican to start the Easter weekend on Thursday in its only home meet of the season. The Cavaliers finished with 50 points. Ashland won the quad with 105 points. Malone was runner-up with 77. Ohio Dominican finished with 44.

Sherman Kortze (Fr., Green, OH/CVCA) gave Walsh a first place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 49.94. Teammates Craig Dougherty (Jr., Clinton, OH/Mancester), Paul Sonego (Fr., North Ridgeville, OH/HS), and Joseph Mikulin (So., Akron, OH/Manchester) finished third through fifth, respectively, to score 12 points for Walsh between the quartet.

Seth Wieland (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Green) finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.97, but was first amongst team participants.

Wieland, Sonego, Dougherty, and Kortze then teamed up to win the 4x400 meter relay. After setting the school record in two consecutive meets, the squad was unable to pull off the feat again, but still had an impressive time of 3:20.63.

Andrew Gratz (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) finished second in the high jump with a height of 1.85 meters. Seth Coon (Fr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) also finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 12.34 meters.

Walsh will now travel to Columbus tomorrow to participate in the Jesse Owens Classic at The Ohio State University. The event will take place tomorrow and Saturday.
