4.21.12 WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD: Walsh Captures AMC Title; Third in OIC

Walsh has won the American Mideast Conference Track and Field Championship, which was held at Walsh. Walsh (97) won by six points over second place Houghton College (91). Roberts Wesleyan finished third (29) and Daemen College fourth (5). Walsh placed third in the Ohio Independent Championships. The meet was a combination of AMC and NCAA Division ll independent schools. For Walsh, it was their first conference title and first championship since 1986 when they won the NAIA District 22 title.
The Cavs captured nine first places finished in the AMC meet. Stephanie Foster (Jr., Lodi, OH/Cloverleaf) won the pole vault (12’6”) for the third straight year. Kristine Sokol (So., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) won both the discus (115’9”) and the javelin (101’7”). Leah Beatty (Jr., Enon Valley, PA/Mohawk) was also a multiple winner, capturing the hammer (134’2”) and the shot (36’7”).
Dayna Daltorio (Sr., New Middletown, OH/Cardinal Mooney) took first in the 400m hurdles (1:11.1) and was a part of Walsh’s winning 4x800 team (10:38), along with Alyssa Akers (Jr., Twinsburg, OH/HS) Erin Clark (Sr., Stow, OH/Archbishop Hoban) and Kelsey Dickey (Fr., Cortland, OH/Lakeview). Katelin Smith (Fr., North Lima, OH/South Range) won the 100m hurdles (17.3) and Carly Walters (So., Garfield Heights, OH/Trinity), Sarah Martter (Jr., Peninsula, OH/Woodridge), Allison Swarny (Jr., Bolivar, OH/Tusky Valley) and Molly Martin (Jr., Canfield, OH/HS) won the 4x400m relay (4:10.2).
