4.21.13 WOMEN'S LACROSSE: Urbana Takes Down Cavs

Women's Lacrosse, 2013-04-21

Walsh dropped the home finale of its first season by a score of 16-5 to visiting Urbana on Sunday afternoon. The Cavaliers fall to 2-6 overall on the year and 1-5 in the GLIAC. The Blue Knights improve to 3-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

The game was close throughout the first 15 minutes as Urbana held a slim 2-1 lead. The Blue Knights scored the first two goals before Caroline Smith (Jr., 5-1, Waterville, OH/Anthony Wayne) found the back of the net unassisted at 17:05. Urbana put the pressure on after that and scored five consecutive goals. Ivy Meloy (Jr., 5-8, Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS) scored with 2:42 left in the half to end Urbana’s run and make the score 7-2, but the Cavs would not recover.

Holly Axline (So., 5-0, North Canton, OH/Hoover), Emily Walter (Fr., 5-4, Westerville, OH/South), and Lauren Griswold (Jr., 5-6, Strongsville, OH/HS) all scored goals for Walsh.

The defense found it difficult to contain Urbana’s Emily Boerger as she exploded for eight goals and an assist.

Walsh will wrap up the season next week as they travel to Lake Erie on Friday and Findlay on Sunday.
