4.29.11 BASEBALL: Cavs Split With Falcons

(Avon, OH) Walsh (18-27, 4-14) split an American Mideast Conference double header with Notre Dame College (22-20, 5-13) at All-Pro Freight Stadium tonight. Walsh was shutout 9-0 in game one, but rallied to win the nightcap 4-1. The two teams close the season tomorrow with a conference twinbill at Walsh at 1 pm.
Notre Dame's Simon Davis pitched a complete game five-hitter in the opener. The Falcons scored four runs in the first inning, keyed by a bases loaded triple by Benji Jarabeck. The Falcons then added two runs in the each the second and third innings to put the game away. Dustin Lancy (Sr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS) went 2-3 for Walsh. Eric Shimko (Sr., Canton, OH/McKinley) was the starter and loser for the Cavs and falls to 1-2.
David Roper (So., Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) pitched a complete game seven hitter in the nightcap to improve to 5-4 on the season. Roper fanned four and walked only one. Walsh trailed 1-0 after the first inning, but rallied with two runs in the third and one in each the fourth and fifth innings. Tim Stinson (So., Alliance, OH/Marlington) was 2-4 and doubled home the go ahead run in the third.
