4.3.12 SOFTBALL: Cavs Sweep Houghton

(North Canton, OH) Walsh (21-11, 7-1) swept an American Mideast Conference from Houghton College (0-20, 0-8) today by the scores of 10-0 and 18-1. The Cavs have won their last eight games.  Both games were five innings.  Walsh will host the Highlanders again tomorrow in a twin bill at 3 pm.

Erin Ebert (Jr., Jeromesville, OH/Hillsdale) pitched a one-hit shutout in winning her ninth game in the opener.  Walsh scored three runs in the first and third innings, and four in the fourth.  Kendra Gerber (Jr., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) drove in five runs with a double and single and Crystal Pfleger (Jr., Mogadore, OH/Field) was 3-3 with four RBI.  All three of Pfleger’s hits were doubles. 

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning of the second game, the Cavs responded with a six-run first.  They would then add three runs in the second and explode for eight in the fifth.  The Cavs banged out 21 hits in the nightcap, with eight players having at least two hits.  Chelsy Testa (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) hit a two-run homer in the first, her first of the season.  Testa also tripled and drove in four runs.  Rachel Dedinsky (So., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) was 3-4 with two RBI, Eryn Simon (So., Oregon, OH/.Clay) was 2-2 with two RBI and Maggie Yavorsky (Sr., Norton, OH/HS) was 3-3 with two RBI.  The Cavs had seven extra base hits.  Hanna Dodson (Fr., Newark, OH/Licking Valley) went the distance to even her record at 4-4.  She allowed only two hits.

The Cavs have scored 129 runs in their last six games.
