Softball, 2013-04-03

Walsh (9-7) took both ends of a non-league double header from the University of Charleston today, by the scores of 5-0 and 5-3. The Cavs play a make-up GLIAC twin bill at Malone tomorrow at 3:30 pm.

Walsh picked up two runs in the third inning and three more in the sixth, to back the two-hit, shutout pitching of Casi Rohr (So., Massillon, OH/Perry/Toledo). Rohr fanned a season high 13 and walked only one.  Kaliegh Cupka (So., Streetsboro, OH/Walsh Jesuit) got the Cavs on the board with a two-out, two-run homer. The Cavs then put the game with a three-run sixth.

Anna Fach (So., Massillon, OH/Perry/John Carroll) and Chelsy Testa (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) each had two hits.

Walsh snapped a 1-1 tie with three runs in the fifth in the nightcap to take a 4-1 lead. They would add an insurance run in the seventh.  Fach’s two-run single gave the Cavs a 3-1 lead. Ashley Starr (Fr., Bloomingdale, OH/Indian Creek) then singled in Fach to give the Cavs a 4-1 lead. The Cavs added an unearned run in the seventh.  Marisa Bondoni (Fr., Alliance, OH/HS) started and allowed one run on one hit through three innings. Rohr came on in the fourth and worked the final four innings to win both games of the double headers. Rohr is now 5-2.
