4.30.11 BASEBALL: Cavs Split with Notre Dame

Baseball, 2011-04-30

Walsh and Notre Dame split for the second time in as many days as both teams completed their season Saturday afternoon. The Cavs (19-28, 5-15) took game one 9-7, while the Falcons (23-21, 6-14) took the season finale 12-1 in five innings.

Kyler King (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake), Tim Stinson (So., Alliance, OH/Marlington), and Marc Miller (Sr., Hudson, OH/HS) led the charge for the Cavaliers in the opener with two hits and two RBI each. John Stephenson (Fr., New Philadelphia, OH/HS) also added two hits with a single RBI. Walsh took an early 4-0 lead after three innings, but Notre Dame came back with four runs in the top of the fourth. Walsh responded with a big inning of their own with five runs in the fifth, led by Stinson's two RBI double. Notre Dame rallied late with three runs in the seventh, but it wouldn't be enough.

Billy Gura (Jr., Sagamore Hills, OH/St. Peter Chanel) picked up the win to improve to 2-3 on the year. Ian Drapcho (Fr., Dover, OH/HS) came on in relief for his third save of the season. Tyler Decrapio took the loss for the Falcons.

In game two, Notre Dame went up early with seven runs in the first two frames. Walsh's solo run came in the bottom of the second when Stinson scored on an error. The Falcon's scored five runs across the next three innings to invoke the mercy rule. Mike Muenster (Sr., Gates Mills, OH/NDCL) took the loss to fall to 1-2. Andrew Hyde earned the win for Notre Dame.
