4.30.13 MEN'S LACROSSE: Stephens Named Offensive Player of the Week

(CENTERVILLE, Mass.) – The ECAC Division II Lacrosse League has named Ben Stephens (Jr., 6-0, Murrysville, PA/Franklin) as Offensive Player of the Week following his performance in Saturday’s overtime win against Alderson-Broaddus. Stephens scored five goals, all of which came at pivotal moments, in the 12-11 overtime victory against the Battlers in the season finale.

With the Cavaliers down 3-0 in the early moments of the first quarter, Stephens scored the next two goals to put Walsh back in the contest. His third goal tied the game at 6-6 midway through the second quarter, a score that lasted through halftime. His fourth goal gave Walsh a 9-8 lead just before the end of the third quarter. The Cavs took an 11-9 lead with 6:17 left on his fifth and final goal.

Alderson-Broaddus tied the game at 11-11 with four seconds left. Tyler Murphy (Sr., 6-4, Canton, OH/Jackson) then scored the game-winning golden goal with 2:04 left in overtime.

Stephens joins Nicholas Colston (So., 5-11, North Canton, OH/Hoover) and Adam King (Fr., 5-10, Green, OH/HS) as Cavaliers who have earned Player of the Week honors. Colston was Co-Defensive Player of the Week and King was Rookie of the Week for Week 5.
