4.4.12 BASEBALL: Cavs Complete Sweep of Houghton
Walsh posted another pair of wins and completed the sweep of visiting Houghton by scores of 20-3 and 11-2 Wednesday afternoon. The Cavaliers (18-14, 7-1) pushed their winning streak to seven games. The Highlanders (3-22, 0-8) are winless in their last 11.
The Cavaliers were down early in game one thanks to back-to-back Houghton home runs in the first inning, but answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Walsh went on to tie it with a run in the second, and took the lead for good with a four-run third inning. Walsh scored in every inning but the sixth.
Forrest Boggs (Jr., 6-2, Suffield, OH/Field/Mercyhurst) did most of the damage on the offensive end as he went 2-for -3 with five RBI and three runs scored. Most of that was a result of two home runs which were his fifth and sixth round trips of the year. Jordan Tucker (Sr., 6-2, University Heights, OH/Cleveland Heights) also hit one over the fence, his second home run of the year, with two men on base for three RBI. Other standouts included R.J. Vukovich (Jr., 5-9, North Canton, OH/Hoover/West Liberty) who recorded hits in all three at-bats and had four RBI with one scored and two doubles. Drew Link (So., 5-10, Granville, OH/HS) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Ian Drapcho (So., 6-0, Dover, OH/HS) earned the win to improve to 1-1. He gave up three runs and four hits with three strikeouts against one walk in five innings pitched.
Game two saw Walsh pick up where it left off in the first game. The Cavs led from start to finish with two runs scored in the first and five more coming in the third. Houghton added two in the fifth inning, but by that point Walsh had all of its 11 runs.
Tyler Jones (Sr., 5-10, Mansfield, OH/HS) had two hits for three RBI and one run scored in the win. Link had another multiple hit game with a pair of singles and runs scored. Boggs went 2-for-2 with two RBI, a run scored, and a base on balls. Justin Clements (So., Massillon, OH/Jackson) hit his first home run of the season and had two RBI on the night. Andy DePeel (Jr., 5-11, Cincinnati, OH/Princeton ) and Kyler King (Jr., 5-8, Uniontown, OH/Lake) each had two hits, one RBI, and a run scored.
Roberto Morales (Jr., 5-8, Canfield, OH/Cardinal Mooney) earned the win and is now 2-0 on the year. He allowed two runs, four hits, struck out four against one walk in five innings of work.
Walsh is back in action with a doubleheader against Urbana at home. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
