4.4.13 MEN'S LACROSSE: Lindenwood Overpowers Cavs

Men's Lacrosse, 2013-04-04

After coming off of a big win last week, Walsh couldn’t keep the momentum going as it ran into a strong Lindenwood (Mo.) squad and fell 13-3. The Cavaliers are now 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the ECAC. The Lions improve to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.

The Cavs were on the defensive for most of the night as the Lions inundated them with shot after shot. In all, Jeff Balzano (Jr., 6-0, Chesterland, OH/West Geauga) faced 71 shots and was able to come up with 28 saves on the evening. Meanwhile, the Cavs were only able to fire off 17 shots in the game.

Mason Axline (Jr., 5-7, Green, OH/HS) was able to ring true on a pair of them to give the Cavs their first two goals of the game, both on man-up opportunities. He now has 13 goals on the year. Ian Maurer (Jr., 6-2, Jackson Township, OH/Jackson) added the other goal for Walsh.

Balzano now leads the league in total saves with 58 and is second in the league in save percentage at 50.9 percent.

Walsh will return to action on Tuesday when it hosts Fanciscan in a men’s and women’s lacrosse doubleheader. It is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
