4.5.12 SOFTBALL: Cavs Split at Urbana; Ruppel Homers Twice in Nightcap, Ford Wins 9th Game

(Urbana, OH) Walsh (24-12) split a double header at Urbana University (12-14) today. The Cavs lost a 2-1 decision in game one, but gained a split with a 7-2 win in the nightcap. The Cavs are idle until Tuesday, when they to Cedarville University for a double header.
Erin Ebert (Jr., Jeromesville, OH/HS) was the tough luck loser in game one, falling to 10-6 on the season. She allowed only three hits and one earned run. After falling behind 1-0 in the second, Walsh tied the game on Chelsy Testa’s (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) two-out RBI single in the third. Dana Brown (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) started t he rally with a two-out single. Urbana scored what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the fourth.
Calee Ruppel (Fr., Mogadore, OH/HS) and Jenna Rosso (Sr., Amherst, OH/Amherst Steele) provided the offensive firepower to help Kelsey Ford (Sr., Boardman, OH/HS) improved to 9-2 in game two. Ruppel hit a two-run homer in the second inning and a solo shot in the sixth. Rosso went 2-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Brown and Kayla Marcus each had two hits. Ford fanned 10 and scattered eight hits in the complete game win.
