4.5.14 SOFTBALL: Cavs Rally in Nightcap to Earn Split

(MIDLAND, Mich.) Walsh (16-11, 6-4) split a GLIAC double header at Northwood University (13-9, 4-2) today. The Cavs dropped the opener 9-5, but came back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the nightcap 4-3. Walsh will now host Lake Superior State University on Sunday in a conference twinbill at 12 pm.

Walsh led 3-0 after two innings in the opener, but didn't tally again until the seventh. Northwood tied the game with three runs in the third, and then added three in the fourth and two in fifth. Eryn Simon (Sr., Oregon, OH/Clay) got the Cavs rolling with a two-run homer in the first. Marissa Bondoni (So., Alliance, OH/HS) then hit a solo homer in the second. Walsh added two runs in the seventh on a Sam Troxell (Jr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS/YSU) single and on a fielders choice. Casi Rohr (Jr., Massillon, OH/Perry/Toledo) started for the Cavs and was chased after two innings, allowing six runs.

Walsh rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn the split. Chesly Testa's (Sr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) doubled to center to tie the game, and Jenna Head (Fr., Mantua, OH/Crestwood) then singled to center, scoring Anna Fach (Jr., Massillon, OH/Perry/John Carroll) with the winning run. Simon was 3-3, with Testa, Head, and Fach having two hits. Bondoni started and went all the way for the Cavs to improve to 6-2. She fanned four and scattered six hits.
