4.5.14 BASEBALLL: Cavs Get Great Starting Pitching in Sweep of Findlay

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) Walsh (15-15, 7-5) ran its winning streak to a season-high six games with a double header sweep of the University of Findlay (5-15, 5-8) in GLIAC action today. The Cavs won game won 6-2, and the nightcap 4-0. The Cavs and Oilers play the final game of the three-game series at 1:30 pm tomorrow. The game will be broadcast live on TEAMLINE.

The Cavs used a four-run fourth inning to break a scoreless tie, and then added two runs in the fifth to win the opener. Freshman left-hander Matt Iosue (Mayfield, OH/HS) pitched six shutout innings to improve to 2-4.  Iosue scattered six hits, fanned seven and walked only one.

Sam Fondriest (Sr. Dover, OH/Tuscarawas CC) returned to the line-up after being out almost two weeks with a severely sprained ankle, and went 2-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Jason McPeek (So., Stow, OH/Munroe-Falls/Akron) drove in two runs with a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning rally. Mike Lee (Sr., Barberton, OH/HS) went 3-4, and Brook Clark (So., Canton, OH/McKinley) and Justin Clements (Sr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) each had two hits.

Danny Roper (Jr., Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) pitched five shutout innings in the nightcap to improve to 2-0. Roper allowed only three hits. Donnie Macko (Jr., Clinton, OH/Northwest/Wheeling Jesuit) preserved the shutout with two scoreless innings in relief. Walsh scored single runs in the first and second innings, and added two runs in the fourth on a two-out, two-run double to left by Clements. Fondriest had two hits in game two, and Andrew Bonnette (Jr., Tallmadge, OH/HS) also had two hits.
