4.5.14 MEN'S LACROSSE: Lindenwood Shuts Down Cavs

Men's Lacrosse, 2014-04-05

(LINDENWOOD, Mo.) – Offensive troubles in the middle quarters hurt Walsh as it fell by a score of 13-4 to hosting Lindenwood in ECAC action on Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers drop to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference after they started the season 2-0. The Lions are now 3-5 overall and an even 2-2 in the conference. Lindenwood has now won three consecutive games.

Both teams showed up defensively in a low scoring 2-2 first quarter. Walsh struck first on a goal by Alex Hudgens (Fr., South Lyon, MI/HS) just over a minute into the game. After the Lions came back with two goals later in the quarter, Hudgens scored again on a man-up opportunity with 2:11 to go in the first to tie the game at 2-2.

That was about as far as the offensive momentum went for the Cavs. The Lions defense picked up to give Walsh problems the rest of the day. Lindenwood outscored and shut out the Cavaliers the next two quarters with a 7-0 mark in the second and a 3-0 difference in the third. The Cavaliers eventually reached the scoreboard again in the fourth quarter as Ian Maurer (Sr., Jackson, OH/HS) put one between the pipes on an assist from Mason Axline (Sr., Green, OH/HS). Josh Jacobs (Sr., Columbus, OH/Hilliard Darby) scored the final tally for Walsh to set up the final score with 1:58 left in the game.

Lindenwood controlled most facets of the game as it outshot Walsh 42-34, picked up more ground balls at a 41-33 margin, and won 13-of-20 faceoffs in the game.

The Cavs will return to action at home in a conference game on Wednesday. Walsh will host Seton Hill that day with the first face-off set for 4 p.m.
