(Findlay, OH) Walsh (14-10, 8-6) split a GLIAC twin bill at the University of Findlay (11-14, 5-9) today. The Cavs won the opener 5-4, but dropped the nightcap 8-6. Walsh and the Oilers play the rubber game of the series currently scheduled for noon tomorrow.
Walsh rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win game one 5-4. After the Oilers touched Walsh starter Ian Drapcho (Jr., Dover, OH/HS) for four runs in the first inning, Drapcho held them scoreless the next five innings. Walsh rallied with single runs in the third, fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Trevor Smith (Sr., Parma, OH/Holy Name) was hit by a pitch to start the seventh inning. He advanced to second on RJ Vukovich's (Sr., North Canton, OH/Hoover) sacrifice bunt and to third on a wild pitch.
With two outs, Sam Fondriest (Jr., New Philadelphia, OH/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) singled to center to break the 4-4 tie. Neal Edwards (So., Silver Lake, OH/Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary) then worked a scoreless seventh for his fifth save of the season. Drapcho, now 2-0, allowed four runs, two earned, on just four hits. He fanned eight. Andrew Bonnette (So., Tallmadge, OH/HS) was 3-5 with a run scored and Forrest Boggs (Sr., Suffield, OH/Field) went 2-4.
In the nightcap, Findlay never trailed as it scored in each of the first five innings while holding off a late rally that saw the Cavs score one in the fifth and two in the sixth. The Oilers scored three in the opening frame, but Walsh answered and tied the game in its next at-bat. Findlay added single runs in the next three frames and its final pair in the fifth.
