4.6.13 SOFTBALL: Northwood Sweeps Cavs in Close Contests
Walsh was swept by Northwood (Mich.) in a GLIAC doubleheader with the visitors winning both games by a score of 2-0. The Cavaliers fall to 11-9 overall and 2-6 in the conference. The Timberwolves are now 17-12 and 7-3 in the GLIAC.
In the opener, both teams had tremendous pitching and allowed four hits for the opposition. Unfortunately for the Cavs, one of Northwood’s hit was a two-run home run in the fourth inning that provided the only runs in the game. Walsh had opportunities, but left runners stranded on third in three different innings. Calee Ruppel (So., Mogadore, OH/HS) was left there twice after reaching safely twice on bunts. She was 2-3 in the game.
Casi Rohr (So., Massillon, OH/Perry/Toledo) took the loss to drop to 6-3 on the season. She pitched the entire game and struck out seven against two walks.
In the nightcap, Northwood added single runs in the second and fifth for the 2-0 victory. This time Walsh had troubles on the bases as only one runner was able to reach third in the game. Erin Ebert (Sr., Jeromesville, OH/Hillsdale) was charged with the loss and fell to 3-5 on the season. She allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits in four innings of work.
The Cavs are back in action tomorrow with another GLIAC twin bill. This time they host Lake Superior State with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
