4.6.14 MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD: Cavs Set New Record For 4x400 Relay

(ALLIANCE, Ohio) – The men’s 4x400 meter relay team was the highlight of the weekend for Walsh as it broke the school record. The squad finished the event with a time of 3:20 .42 and set the new mark for the first time since 2002 when Ellerhorst, Besgrove, Moore, and McMichael set the mark. The Cavs edged Mt. Union by less than a second. Seth Wieland (Fr., Uniontown, OH/Green), Paul Sonego (Fr., North Ridgeville, OH/HS), Craig Dougherty (Jr., Clinton, OH/Manchester), and Sherman Kortze (Fr., Green, OH/CVCA) were the quartet that set the new record.
Matt Thiessen (So., Navarre, OH/Perry) was also a winner in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:54.38. He won the event by more than seven seconds over the second place finisher.
In other events, the Cavs’ 4x100 meter relay team finished third place with a time of 43.90. Justin Groubert (Jr., Hartville, OH/Lake) also finished third in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 3:59.77. Wieland finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.14. Walsh will compete in two events next week as the Cavs will travel to Robert Morris’ Benny Benson Invitational and to Bucknell’s Bison Outdoor Classic. Both events are on Saturday.
