4.6.14 WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD: Sokol Sets School Record In Javelin

(ALLIANCE, Ohio) – Many personal records were broken by Walsh athletes at the John Homon Open hosted by the University of Mount Union on Sunday, but none were bigger as Krissy Sokol (Sr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) set the school record in the javelin.
Sokol set the record with a distance of 37.69 meters, or 123 feet, 8 inches. The previous record was set by Leslie Ryman in 1985. That year Ryman set the mark at 122 feet, 5 inches.
In other field events, Shannon Montgomery (So., Newton Falls, OH/HS) was second in the discus with a distance of 39.96 meters, or 131 feet, 1 inch. Kendra Zbinovec (Jr., North Ridgeville, OH/Elyria Catholic) was third with a distance of 37.19 meters, or 122 feet even. Zbinovec also finished second in the shot put with a distance of 12.03 meters.
In the track events, Carly Walters (Sr., Twinsburg, OH/Trinity) won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.04. She was also part of the 4x400 meter relay that won with a time of 4:08.64. She led off the race while Margaret Liberatore (Fr., Concord, OH/Riverside), Kourtney Kelly (Fr., Middlefield, OH/Cardinal), and Annie Wise (So., Randolph, OH/Waterloo) rounded out the

Walsh will compete in two events next week as the Cavs will travel to Robert Morris’ Benny Benson Invitational and to Bucknell’s Bison Outdoor Classic. Both events are on Saturday.
