4.7.12 BASEBALL: Cavs Fall Twice at Urbana

(Urbana, OH) Walsh (20-16) lost both ends of a double header at Urbana University (11-18) by the scores of 5-3 and 8-7 in eight innings.  The Cavs are idle until Tuesday, when they host Cedarville University in a double header (1 pm).

Walsh took a 3-1 lead in the opener with a three-run third inning.  Andy DePeel (Jr., Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) homered to start the scoring.  Tim Stinson (Jr., Alliance, OH/Marlington) would then double to drive in Sam Fondriest (So., Dover, OH/Tusky Central Catholic), who singled, to give Walsh a 2-1 lead.  Tyler Jones (Sr., Mansfield, OH/Madison) then had a two-out single to score Stinson to give the Cavs a 3-1 lead.  Urbana came right back with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead 4-3.  They would add an insurance run in the fourth.  David Roper (Jr., Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) was the starter and loser, falling to 2-4. 

The Cavs scored three runs in the second and third innings to take a 6-1 lead in game two.  After scoring two unearned runs in the second, Justin Clements (So., Massillon, OH/Jackson) had a two-run single and R. J. Vukovich (Jr., North Canton, OH/Hoover) a RBI double in the third.  Urbana came right back with three runs in the third to trim the lead to 6-5.  They would tie the game with a run in the fourth.   Walsh took a 7-6 lead in the seventh when Clements singled, stole second and third base and scored on a single by Drew Link (So., Granville, OH/HS).  Urbana would tie the game with a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh and win the game with a two-out single in the eight. Joe Tann (Fr., Canton, OH/Central Catholic) started and went six innings for the Cavs.  Zach Speer (Jr., Stow, OH/HS) took the loss in relief and is 1-3.
