4.9.13 WOMEN'S LACROSSE: Cavs Come Back to Beat Barons

Women's Lacrosse, 2013-04-09

Walsh recorded an impressive come-from-behind victory by a score of 8-6 over visiting Franciscan at Vasco Field this evening. The Cavaliers (2-3) break a modest two-game skid while the Barons fall to 1-11.

The Cavs started slow off the blocks as Franciscan controlled most of the first half and held Walsh scoreless for 25 minutes. With the score 3-0 in favor of the visitors, Taetumn Clark (So., 5-2, Warrensville Heights, OH/St. Peter) finally put the Cavs on the board with an unassisted goal. The Barons were able to answer, however, with a goal 13 seconds later and went into the halftime break up 4-1.

The second half proved much better for the Cavaliers as they scored five unanswered goals in the first 10 minutes of the half to take a 6-4 lead. Franciscan didn’t give up and scored a pair of goals, but each time the Barons scored, Walsh was able to counter with a goal of its own.

Holly Axline (So., 5-0, North Canton, OH/Hoover) provided the tying goal at the 26:26 mark of the second half. Lauren Griswold (Jr., 5-6, Strongsville, OH/HS) then put the Cavs up on an unassisted goal with 21:52 remaining. Griswold finished with a hat trick. Axline and Ivy Meloy (Jr., 5-8, Cuyahoga Falls, OH/HS) both scored two goals on the night.

Tia Tyler (Fr., 5-8, Columbus, OH/St. Francis DeSales) earned the win in goal. She faced 15 shots and made eight saves.

Walsh returns to conference action as it hosts Wheeling Jesuit this Sunday. The game is set to start at 1:30 p.m.
