4.9.14 MEN'S LACROSSE: No. 8 Seton Hill Handles Cavaliers

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh battled with No. 8 Seton Hill for most of the first half but eventually were defeated by a score of 19-10 in ECAC action. The Cavaliers are now 2-5 overall and 1-4 in the conference. The Griffins improve to 7-3 overalland 3-1 in the ECAC.

Both teams exchanged the first five goals to start the game. Mason Axline (Sr., Green, OH/HS) scored the first goal for Walsh on an assist from Bryan Crim (Fr., Reading, PA/Exeter) to tie the game at 1-1. Ian Maurer (Sr., Jackson, OH/HS) took an assist from Nicholas Castorf (Fr., Holbrook, NY/Sachem) to tie the game at 2-2.

Seton Hill answered with a pair of goals before Axline scored his second of the afternoon for the first score of the second quarter. The Griffins once again added a pair of goals to go up 6-3. Axline’s third goal of the day put Walsh within two with 4:59 to play, but Seton Hill started to distance itself from there as the Griffins scored the next five.

The third quarter was also unkind for the Cavs as Seton Hill scored seven unanswered goals after they gave up the first score. Walsh’s offense picked up again in the fourth as it won the period 5-1, but the game was already decided by then.

Axline finished with four goals and an assist for five points. Maurer added a pair of goals and assists for four points. Castorf also scored multiple goals with two to go with an assists for three points. Defensively Mark Guzik (Fr., Dublin, OH/Coffman) was strong for the Cavs with nine ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.

Dylan Ciolino (Fr., Nesconset, NY/Sachem North) was in goal for most of the game for Walsh. He came up with seven saves in 42 minutes of action.

Walsh plays its penultimate home game against Mt. Olive this Saturday. Face-off is set for 12 p.m.
