4.9.14 SOFTBALL: Cavs Split With Ashland

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio) – Walsh split an afternoon doubleheader with visiting Ashland with a 4-1 victory before a 3-1 defeat on Wednesday. The Cavaliers are now 21-12 overall and 9-5 in the conference and have won 10 of their last 12 games. The Eagles now stand at 15-10 overall and 4-4 in the GLIAC.

The Cavaliers scored all four of their runs in the second inning of the front end of the twin bill. Chelsy Testa (Sr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) came struck first with a bases-loaded, two RBI single to right field that scored Rachel Dedinsky (Sr., Cuyahoga Falls, OH/SVSM) and Anna Anderson (So., Wadsworth, OH/HS) as a direct result of the hit. Anna Fach (Jr., Massillon, OH/Perry/John Carroll) advanced to third and scored on an error by the right fielder.  Testa advanced to second on the throw in and scored one batter later as Jenna Head (Fr., Mantua, OH/Crestwood) singled to left field.

That was all Casi Rohr (Jr., Massillon, H/Perry/Toledo) needed as she gave up only one run in the first inning and went the distance to improve to 12-7. She scattered six hits and struck out four against two walks.

The nightcap went to the Eagles as they scored one run in the third and another pair in the fifth. Walsh threatened to tie the game in the top of the seventh, but only scored on a sacrifice fly to left field by Testa which allowed Anderson to score. Quartni Whited (Fr., Akron, OH/Springfield) picked up the loss to fall to 3-2 on the year.

The Cavaliers are now scheduled to be on the road for three doubleheaders in a row. First on the slate is a trip to Tiffin where Walsh will take on the Dragons on Saturday at 1 p.m.
