4.9.14 WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cavs Top West Liberty 8-1

(CANTON, Ohio) – The Walsh women’s tennis team picked up a big 8-1 win over West Liberty University at the Hall of Fame Fitness Courts on Wednesday. The Cavaliers improved to 19-7 on the season while the Hilltoppers dropped just their fourth match and are now 14-4. WLU is a member of the Mountain East Conference and are ranked No. 4 in the Atlantic Region.

The Cavaliers started the day with a clean sweep in doubles. Sofya Logunova (Fr., Praha, Czech Republic/Russian Embassy School in Prague) and Alona Skobkina (Fr., Tarragona, Spain/Instituto Espan de Andorra) won at first doubles by a score of 8-6. Daria Bondareva (Fr., St. Petersburg, Russia/HS) and Alisha Angle (Jr., Lexington, OH/HS) won at second doubles 8-1. Anastasia Dasik (Fr., Kiev, Ukraine/School N 40) and Jackie DiDomenico (Sr., Canfield, OH/Cardinal Mooney) wrapped up doubles with an 8-6 win of their own.

In singles action, the Cavs put the contest in the win column early as Angle and Dasik both won their singles matches in dominating fashion. Angle won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, while Dasik won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5. Logunova had some trouble early on at first singles as she lost 6-4, but rebounded well to give the Cavs another point with a 6-4 and 10-4 wins. Bondareva won second singles 6-2, 6-3 and Skobkina won 6-4, 6-4 at third singles. Arina Kravitz (So., Youngstown, OH/Boardman) was close to making it a shutout for Walsh, but lost in a third set tiebreaker 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (8-6).

The Cavaliers will now finish the regular season on the road with two matches left. First up is a trip to Northern Kentucky on Friday, April 18. That match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
