5.1.12 BASEBALL: Cavs Take Two vs. Notre Dame

Baseball, 2012-05-01

Walsh easily handled visiting Notre Dame College in both games of a non-conference twin bill with two wins by eight runs. The Cavaliers (26-22) defeated the Falcons (17-29-1) 10-2 in the first game, then followed it up with a 9-1 victory.

It didn’t take long for the Cavaliers’ bats to get hot in the first game as the hosts scored early and often. A five-hit first inning led to four runs being scored. The Cavs added two more in the third, but Notre Dame crossed home plate twice in the fourth to keep within range. Any hopes of a comeback were erased as the Cavs scored another run in the fourth and thrice more in the sixth.

Forrest Boggs (Jr., 6-2, Suffield, OH/Field/Mercyhurst) had an impressive game as he went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and three runs scored. His home run was a solo shot in the sixth inning and was his eighth round trip of the season. Travis Danner (Sr., 5-11, Medina, OH/HS/Cuyahoga CC) continued his stellar year to improve to 7-1 with the win. He allowed two runs on 10 hits with three strikeouts against one walk.

The second game was close for the first three innings as each team scored a run in the first frame. However, the Cavs batted around and exploded for eight runs in the fourth inning. Every starter in the batting lineup scored a run. Drew Link (So., 5-10, Granville, OH/HS) hit in two runs on a double in the fourth and was 2-for-3 overall in the game.

David Roper (Jr., 6-2, Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) recorded the win. He allowed one run on four hits with six strikeouts against one walk in five innings of work.

Walsh plays its final home games of the regular season with a doubleheader against rival Malone on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
