5.1.14 TRACK AND FIELD: Foster Qualifies For Nationals; Breaks Own School Record
Women's Track & Field, 2014-05-01
(GENEVA, Ohio) - Stephanie Foster (Sr., Lodi, OH/Cloverleaf) automatically qualified for the national championships today with her second place finish in the pole vault. It was the highlight of the GLIAC Championships through the second day of competition at the SPIRE Complex.
Foster cleared 4.13 meters on her last attempt to not only clear the automatic mark, but it also set a new school record in the process. The old record, not surprisingly, also belonged to her, but was set in 2012 at 13 feet, 2.5 inches. The new mark equals 13 feet, 6.5 inches.
Kristen Hixson of Grand Valley finished first with a height of 4.33 meters. She also finished first ahead of Foster during the indoor championships.
Foster was down to her third and final attempt at 4.03 meters and cleared it to attempt 4.13 meters. She missed the first two attempts before finally clearing it on her final chance.
Krissy Sokol (Sr., Akron, OH/Archbishop Hoban) also placed for the Cavaliers as she finished sixth in the javelin. Her best distance was 35.95 meters, or 117 feet 11 inches. That resulted in three points to give Walsh 11 team points at the end of the second day of competition. Rebecka Anderson of Grand Valley won the competition with a distance of 42.13 meters.
The GLIAC Track Championships will resume and conclude tomorrow.
