5.1.14 MEN'S LACROSSE: Cavs Place Six On ECAC All-Rookie Team

(CENTERVILLE, Mass.) – The ECAC Division II Lacrosse League has released its All-Conference Team and six Cavaliers were named to the All-Rookie Team. Walsh had a roster that included 20 freshmen and Nicholas Castorf (Fr., Holbrook, NY/Sachem), Alex Hudgens (Fr., South Lyon, MI/HS), Mark Guzik (Fr., Dublin, OH/Coffman), John Slavin (Fr., Hatboro, PA/Archbishop Wood), Alex Makowicki (Fr., Staatsburg, NY/FDR), and Dylan Ciolino (Fr., Nesconset, NY/Sachem North) were honored for their work during the season.

Each player was picked for a different position and all-together made up half of the All-Rookie Team.

Castorf was selected as one of three attackers. He tied for the team-high in goals with 19 and tied two other players for the second-best point mark on the team with 21. Castorf scored a season-high six goals in a 20-3 win at Franciscan. He was named ECAC Offensive Player of the Week on March 17 after he scored four goals in a win against Young Harris.

Hudgens was selected as one of three midfielders and was also one of the Cavs’ main offensive threats. He scored 15 goals, second-most on the team, and six assists for 21 points to also tie Castorf for second-most on the team. He scored four goals in a season-opening win at Alderson-Broaddus. Hudgens was named Rookie of the Week for his efforts against the Battlers.

Guzik was selected as one of three defenders. He was a main player in terms of getting Walsh possession with a team-high 45 ground balls which ranked in the top 10 in the conference. His 30 caused turnovers tied two other players for second-most in the conference. Guzik was named Co-Defensive Player of the Week after six ground balls and four caused turnovers against Young Harris.

Slavin was selected as the lone longstick midfielder. He totaled 14 ground balls and four caused turnovers on the season in 11 games.

Makowicki was selected as the only specialist on the All-Rookie team. He was the Cavs’ main face-off man with 204 taken during the season. He won 90 of them and was seventh best in the ECAC.

Ciolino was selected as the goalkeeper for the All-Rookie team. He played in all 11 games this season and made 86 saves during the year. Overall, he faced 301 shots. Ciolino was named Defensive Player of the Week the last week of the season after helping the Cavs secure a 9-4 win against Ohio Valley. He was named Rookie of the Week twice during the year.
