In the first game, Walsh couldn’t get the offense going as the Cavs only mustered five hits. The Blue Knights (22-26) scored runs in the third inning on an RBI double and with a sixth inning home run, both by Ashley Skinner. Kelsey Ford (Sr., Boardman, OH/HS) took the loss to fall to 15-5 on the season. She allowed seven hits with five strikeouts.
The tide turned in the favor of the Cavaliers for their second game as they defeated the Yellow Jackets (34-21) 4-0. Much like the first game, all the runs came in the third and sixth innings. Chelsy Testa (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) brought the first two in on a single to right field that brought home Dana Brown (Jr., Uniontown, OH/Lake) and Kayla Marcus (So., Bergholz, OH/Edison). In the sixth, Walsh added a pair of insurance runs when Marcus singled to bring in Jenna Rosso (Sr., Amherst, OH/Steele) and Testa took a bases-loaded walk that brought in Kaleigh Cupka (Fr., Streetsboro, OH/Walsh Jesuit).
Erin Ebert (Jr., Jeromesville, OH/Hillsdale) tossed a gem to earn the win to improve to 15-7. She pitched a one-hit complete game shutout with six strikeouts.
With the tournament being a double-elimination format, the Cavaliers must win three consecutive games tomorrow to claim the championship. Subsequent games would be at approximately 3 and 5 p.m.
