5.3.13 SOFTBALL: Cavs' Trio Earns All-GLIAC Honors
(FINDLAY, Ohio) – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its 2013 All-GLIAC Softball Teams and Postseason Awards and three Walsh Cavaliers are named on the teams. The post-season awards were announced in conjunction with the conference's annual softball tournament at the Marathon Diamonds in Findlay, Ohio. The awards were voted on by the conference softball coaches in ballot format.
Pitcher Casi Rohr (So., Massillon, OH/Perry/Toledo) earned the highest accolades as she was named to the GLIAC Softball All-Conference Second Team. Outfielder Eryn Simon (Jr., Oregon, OH/Clay) and shortstop Calee Ruppel (So., Mogadore, OH/HS) were named as GLIAC Softball All-Conference Honorable Mentions.
Rohr was the Cavs’ top pitcher this season as she fashioned a 1.93 ERA in 20 appearances with 17 starts. She struck out 130 batters in 127 innings of work and held the opposition to a batting average under .200. Here strikeouts and opponents batting average were good for third-most in the conference.
Simon started in 37 games this year and tied for the team-lead in home runs with three round trips on the year. She also added a pair of triples, six doubles, and hit .286 for the season which helped her record a team-best 17 RBI. Ruppel was second on the team in hitting with a .313 average. She hit one home run, a triple, and five doubles.
