5.4.11 SOFTBALL: Cavs Stay Alive With 11-2 Rout of Yellow Jackets

(South Euclid, OH) Fourth-seeded Walsh (19-16) stayed alive at the American Mideast Conference Tournament with an 11-2, six inning, win over third seeded Cedarville University (31-19). The win eliminates the Yellow Jackets. Walsh remains afloat and will meet the loser of tomorrow's (1 pm) Notre Dame/Point Park game at 3 pm.

Walsh snapped a 1-1 tie with five runs in the fourth inning. The Cavs then put the game away with three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth inning. Erin Ebert (So., Jeromesville, OH/Hillsdale) went the distance to improve to 7-8 on the season. Ebert fanned seven and scattered four hits.

Two Cedarville errors opened the door for the Cavs big fourth inning. Ashley Virgin (Jr., Fairlawn, OH/Copley) and Maggie Yavorsky (Jr., Norton, OH/HS) drove in runs with a single and sacrifice fly and Dana Brown (So., Uniontown, OH/Lake) added a two-run single. Senior Ashley Hoover (Sr., Alliance, OH/Louisville) then helped put the game away with a three-run double in the fifth. Erica Kreiling (So., Massillon, OH/Perry) and Kendra Gerber (So., Sugarcreek, OH/Garaway) each drove in runs in the sixth.

Virgin went 3-4, Gerber 2-3 and Brown 2-4. Walsh outhit the Yellow Jackets 9-4.
