Baseball, 2013-05-04

Walsh had trouble generating offense as Hillsdale pulled out a sweep by scores of 2-1 and 2-0 in GLIAC action to spoil Senior Day Saturday afternoon. The Cavaliers head into tomorrow’s finale at 22-21 overall and 14-16 in the conference. The Chargers are now 19-25 overall and 12-18 in the GLIAC.

In the opener, the Cavaliers took an early lead after Andy DePeel (Sr., Cincinnati, OH/Princeton) hit in Justin Clements (Jr., Massillon, OH/Jackson) on a single to right field in the second inning. It was Walsh’s only run on the day. Hillsdale proceeded to tie the game in the fourth inning and later added the go-ahead run in the sixth.

Despite the loss, Jeff Kotlar (Sr., Euclid, OH/HS) still had a strong appearance in his final start. He pitched the complete game and struck out six on the day. He ends the season at 4-3. Lucas Hamelink earned the complete game win for the Chargers.

Game two was very similar to the opener as Walsh fell 2-0. Hillsdale added a run in the opening frame and added an insurance score in the sixth.
