Softball, 2011-05-05

Walsh University ended its softball season as it fell to Point Park by a score of 4-1 in the AMC tournament hosted by Notre Dame. The Cavs finish with a record of 19-17. The Pioneers (23-17) advance to play Notre Dame to decide the championship.

Point Park jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after one inning of play and doubled that lead in the third to make it a 4-0 ballgame. Walsh finally got on the board in the fourth inning when Kayla Marcus (Fr., Bergholz, OH/Edison) scored from second on an error made by the shortstop during Eryn Simon's (Fr., Oregon, OH/Clay) at-bat. Marcus was running for Ashley Virgin (Jr., Fairlawn, OH/Copley), who singled up the middle.

Virgin took the loss and ends the season at 5-4. Erin Ebert (So., Jeromesville, OH/Hillsdale) came on in relief and went five innings and struck out eight batters. Kelsey Robertson earned the win for Point Park.
