5.9.14 WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD: Foster Finishes Third With Gold Medal Competition

Women's Track & Field, 2014-05-09

(MEADVILLE, Pa.) - Stephanie Foster (Sr., Lodi, OH/Cloverleaf) finished third in her last meet of the regular season before the national championships, but it certainly wasn’t anything of which to be ashamed. Foster cleared 4.05 meters as her high mark as did second place finisher Julia Cain of Slippery Rock, but Cain cleared the mark on her first attempt to get the better placement.

The first place finisher was none other than Jenn Suhr, the current No. 1 pole vaulter in the world and the gold medal winner of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. As expected, Suhr easily won the competition with a vault of 4.67 meters.

Shannon Montgomery (So., Newton Falls, OH/HS) was also a third-place winner for the Cavaliers in the discus. She scored her best mark on her final throw which landed 40.01 meters away. Kendra Zbinovec (Fr., Lyndhurst, OH/NDCL) finished fifth in the same event with a throw of 38.26 meters.

Foster will go for a gold medal of her own in the NCAA Division II National Championships in a couple weeks. The meet will begin on Thursday, May 22, and conclude on Saturday, May 24.
