8.26.13 FOOTBALL: Cavs Picked Fourth in South Division
Walsh has been picked fourth in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coaches’ poll for the South Division. The Cavaliers, competing in their second season in the GLIAC, received 43 points and were picked ahead of Lake Erie (40), Tiffin (30), and Malone (21). Ashland was picked to win the South once again with 10 first place votes and 88 points overall. Ohio Dominican was picked second with four first place votes and 80 points, while Findlay was picked third.
Grand Valley State has been picked to win the North Division with six first place votes and 94 points total. Saginaw Valley State, which also garnered six first place votes, was picked second with 87 points. Ferris State, Michigan Tech, and Hillsdale round out the top five with each team receiving a top vote. Wayne State, Northern Michigan, and Northwood round out the North.
Walsh University opens the Ted Karras era on Thursday, Sept. 5, when they play host to Edinboro University at Fawcett Stadium. The Cavs and Edinboro, meeting for the first time, kick-off at 7 p.m. Free tickets will be available at the Giant Eagle store in Washington Square and at PIADA Italian Street Food Restaurant in Belden Village one week before the game.
