8.27.13 VOLLEYBALL: Walsh Picked Sixth in GLIAC

Walsh has been picked sixth in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coaches’ poll for the South Division. The Cavaliers, competing in their second season in the GLIAC, received 21 points and were picked ahead of Tiffin (15) and Lake Erie (7). Ashland was picked to win the South with five first place votes and 47 points overall. Wayne State was just behind in second with three first place votes and 44 points overall. Findlay, Malone, and Ohio Dominican round out the top five in the South.

In the North Division, Northwood was picked first with five first place votes and 45 points. Ferris State was second with two first place votes and 42 points. Hillsdale picked up the last first place vote and had 35 points to tie for third with Grand Valley State. Northern Michigan, Saginaw Valley State, Michigan Tech, and Lake Superior State fill out the North Division.

The Cavaliers start the season on Saturday, Sept. 7, on the road at Gannon in a tri-match with Roberts Wesleyan. From there, the Cavs will play at Alderson-Broaddus and at the Belmont Abbey Tournament before their home opener against Tiffin on Friday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m.
