Walsh has been picked 11thin the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ poll. The Cavaliers, competing in their second season in the GLIAC, received 43 points and were picked ahead of Lake Erie (23) and Malone (18). Grand Valley State, which has won the past eight conference titles, were picked No. 1 with 144 points and 12 first place votes. The league’s 13 head coaches participated in the balloting, but were not allowed to vote for their team.
Michigan Tech recorded the remaining first place vote and had 123 points for the No. 2 spot. Saginaw Valley State, Ohio Dominican and Findlay round out the top five. Ferris State, Northern Michigan, Tiffin, Northwood, and Ashland fill out the top 10 respectively.
The season starts on Friday, Sept. 6, when Walsh hosts St. Thomas Aquinas (N.Y.) of the East Coast Conference at 6:30 p.m. Two days later, the Cavs will entertain West Virginia Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
